A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after spring of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
